How do I select the right snow removal contractor for my job?

Updated: Oct 11, 2020

There are many considerations when selecting a company to service your snow and ice removal needs. First and foremost, find a company with experienced machine operators. While it may not seem like it, a lot of variables impact how we tackle a job. Keep in mind, we're literally moving and stacking tons of material. While the weight of snow varies depending on the temperature, density and other variables, on average it weighs 15 to 20 pounds per cubic foot. The snow that's accumulated on a 200' long, 10' wide driveway can weigh nearly 50,000 lbs (that's just a 4" snowfall)!

Here are some other questions to ask:

  • What factors determine how often you're return to my property during a storm?

  • Do you use professional, meteorological services to help predict snowfall amounts?

  • Is your crew large enough to clear not only the parking lot or driveway, but the sidewalks, stairs, ramps and other key passages?

  • Are you fully insured and is your staff professionally trained?

  • Will the ice melting products you use negatively affect the surfaces they're applied to, the surrounding landscape, etc?
